The Rising Expenses of Gaming: Are Games Becoming Too DLC Orientated?
Gaming has always been an expensive hobby for many of us, but it’s only until recently that I’ve started to back off from buying the latest games and buy older cheap games. I’ve realized just how much the developers are changing the industry, in order to make more money.
The developers of Evolve came out and told us that it was created with DLC’s in mind, in order to make money and support their progress, which is great on one-hand when they want to expand the playable content over time to give the game a new lease of life, but when it comes down to developing games simply based around making more money, it makes me annoyed more than anything. It’s probably the main reason why I’m not buying Evolve.
Secondly, Destiny was one of my most anticipated games for years, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it, but after all the attention and promotion it got, the campaign lasted only a couple of hours, and the game-play got very boring, very quickly.
What annoyed me the most, was the fact that Bungie had pre-loaded two expansions, but then had the audacity to charge us almost as much as the game hra ruleta 77 itself. Why not just release them with the original game, and then go on to develop some other DLC’s later on? It just seemed like they had taken a game, and broken it in half, to make double the money.
It seems like more developers these days are going down the DLC route, and charging ridiculous prices for content that just isn’t worth it.
I think in the future people will become more accustomed to it, and expect shorter campaigns for most games, which in my opinion will ruin the experience.
I’m back playing mostly PS3 games now, and it’s awesome to play through some great story-lines, that clearly the developers had put a lot of time and effort into.
There’s a couple of games I’m really looking forward to this year, I’m just going to be extremely vigilant when it comes to the game-play. It pays to do your research beforehand.
